For 25 years, we have been developing projects based on AI, other AIs, Architectural Ideas. Our most significant commissions were secured through competitions, and the success of these proposals primarily resulted from the strength of the underlying conceptual ideas, rather than design quality, technological resolution, or environmental considerations. Taking part in numerous competitions, regardless of outcome, gave us the opportunity to expand a repertoire of Ideas, which were subsequently tested in the development of new projects.
Federico Bares has been working in architecture for the last 25 years. He co-founded BBBS in 2000. That year, BBBS was shortlisted and received second prize in the Duxton Place International Housing Competition in Singapore. In 2003, he won first prize, along with Brigida Hogan, in the Puerto Rico Architects Association annex building competition, which was completed in 2005.
Since then, he has received numerous competition prizes and professional recognition. Among them is the Bicentennial Cultural Center international competition in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which involved nearly a million square feet of renovation and new architecture. In 2022, as part of BBBS, he received the Konnex Distinction in the Arts in the Architecture category. Simultaneously with his professional practice, he has taught Architecture Studios and Architecture Theory in Argentina, Puerto Rico, and the USA.
Regardless of the scale, each project taken on is approached as an exploration of the program, the site, cultural implications, and the environment. The solutions proposed are rational, contemporary, and committed to the betterment of the community in which they are located. Considering architecture production as a collective endeavor, over the years, Federico Bares has been developing projects with his firms and with many other partners at different geographic locations where the projects took place. This dynamic configuration of design teams both enriches the process of producing architecture and situates the practice in a very contemporary and dynamic environment. He is practicing architecture both in Argentina with BBBS and in Puerto Rico, where he co-founded .
