Dr. Johnson is an engaging and dynamic professor who teaches courses that promote personal branding, leadership and growth. Teaching is a practice of self-discovery and self-actualization for her, rooted in her commitment to critical personal identity as a key component of leadership development and personal growth.

In her courses, students learn the critical role of their own personal brand (human skills, expertise and core values) for effective communication practice, and as a valuable tool to thrive in a fiercely competitive and changing workplace culture. They also develop tangible skills to help them embody and convey their unique value to potential employers and take responsibility for their own career progress. A former broadcast journalist, and political speechwriter with the Government of Jamaica, Dr. Hume Johnson teaches a range of communication courses, including communication in organizations, crisis communication, introduction to the mass media, and public speaking. She previously taught journalism at James Cook University, Australia.. 

Dr. Hume Johnson is an interdisciplinary practitioner-scholar and public intellectual whose work is focused on the brands of people, organizations, and the nation. Drawing on her expertise in leadership development and personal branding, she is a recognized global speaker, and creates skill-based learning experiences for organizational leaders, executives and entrepreneurs. She is published in Journal of Place Branding and Public Diplomacy, Political Studies and International Journal of Media and Cultural Politics. She has also been featured in Entrepreneur.com, BBC World, WPR12/CBS Providence Jamaica Gleaner, and Television Jamaica.
